What is the MBSR Course?

Our eight-week evidence-based Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course is taught by Stephanie Unthank and Dilya Mavlanova and is a good introduction to mindfulness and compassion.  

Based on the gold standard, Jon Kabat-Zinn Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction training, this course will give you the tools to manage stress, anxiety and pain.  During the course there is also the opportunity to attend a half-day retreat. 

This course is a prerequisite for anyone wanting to start the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher Training pathway.

Practical tools

You will gain tools and techniques, learn the theory and neuroscience behind mindfulness and experience live mindfulness practices and group discussions.

Awarded credits

By completing this course you will gain 16 CPD credits.  This course is a prerequisite for anyone wanting to start the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher Training pathway.

We will explore the mind:body connection, mindful movement, breath awareness and loving kindness practices, which will be provided as MP3's.

Course breakdown

Week 1 & 2:  Beginning with Mindfulness and what it is.  The body scan, mind and body connection.  Looking at how to build mindfulness into daily life.  Stress and stress response.

Week 3 & 4: Continued learning relating to stress, stress responses, reaction versus response.  Movement meditation and continued focus on mind and body.  Neuroscience behind mindfulness.

Week 5 & 6: Continued focus on neuroscience.  Working with the breath
Managing difficulties and challenges in day-to-day life.

Week 7 & 8: Self-care, compassion for self and others and a loving kindness awareness practice.

Stephanie Unthank

Stephanie is a qualified and registered mindfulness teacher, a director of MindfulnessUK At Work and a director of the British Association of Mindfulness-based Approaches (BAMBA). With an initial career in the corporate banking sector, in a variety of managerial roles, Stephanie has a deep understanding of the benefits of wellness in both body and mind.  Leading all training of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Stephanie also has leadership and change management expertise, and is an advocate of sustainable cultural change. Stephanie is a positive and enthusiastic teacher and has a very approachable and insightful manner, always creating a warm and welcome environment for all her students to learn and supports employee wellness.

Dylia Mavlanova

Dilya is a certified Mindfulness Teacher, a Life Coach and trained to teach Mindfulness-based and Compassion-based practices for greater wellbeing and personal growth. She has completed a number of Mindfulness courses, workshops and retreats, including MindfulnessUK Teacher Training, Advanced Coaching Course, and Mindfulness for Leaders training.  Dilya’s teaching is secular, inclusive and accessible, yet enriched with the philosophies of Zen and Dharma teachings, Pranayama tools, neuroscience, and psychoanalysis.  Born in Uzbekistan, she has so far lived in over 5 countries and travelled to over 35 countries across 4 continents.  Through her own personal experiences Dilya deeply understands the benefits of mindfulness and her regular practice has empowered her to share these techniques and help others.
